“A photograph is never taken but only given.”
Erika Larsen is one of the photographers participating in Fotografiska’s current group exhibition Like a Horse. The exhibition examines the relationship between us and this powerful, spiritual, beautiful and hard-working animal. During the exhibition period (May 19th -September 3rd), limited prints will be sold exclusively by Fotografiska Edition.
Erika Larsen uses photography, video and writing to get a deeper understanding of cultures that maintain a strong connection to nature. Her stories demonstrate a great curiosity about the human experience and our relationship to language, landscape, rituals and spirituality. Over a period of two years Erika Larsen visited numerous places in the western United States to learn more about the importance of the horse in Native American culture. Her work is part of the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, National Geographic Society and Ajtte Sámi Museum and she is currently contributing to the National Geographic Magazine.
